A Landie Too Many

It all started very innocently with 16 GN 37 (now TH-TX-55), a "Caravan, Commanders, 3/4 ton". Built on a 109 Series III by Carawagon, a small batch (13?) of these Tactical Command Posts were used by A Troop, 14 Squadron Royal Corps of Transport as part of the British Army of the Rhine to accommodate commanding officers. If it's good enough for Generals, it's good enough for me.

Trips to Beltring,Billing and Autotron proved that the Carawagon is a very useful (and cool!) camper, but the left-hand drive was a bit of a hassle in the UK.

pink pantherThe ultimate military Land Rover is of course the SAS "Pink Panther" desert patrol vehicle. The only problem with pinkies is that they are... well... pink. So when Mark Finch found and rebuilt 10 FG 75 in it's green guise, I started drooling. Of course, getting it through the Dutch vehicle inspection proved to be less than trivial. No, the machine guns and grenade launchers aren't a problem, but the fact that it doesn't have an interior mirror is. Go figure.

10 FG 75 doing it's thing. Somewhere. If we told you where, we would have to shoot you.

OK, so I found out some of the last Carawagons were for sale. Really the last - two of them seem to have the Carawagon top and interior moved over to new (very late Series III) base vehicles. I thought it would be a good idea to get a RHD one to use in the UK. But instead of one, I ended up buying all 4. And as that is a bit too many, I think I will be looking at selling one or two of them.
